Trainings

Austin Child Guidance Center (ACGC) is a premier trainer in trauma-informed, evidence-based interventions as well as on-going development and training of emerging and seasoned professionals. 

Training for Therapists 

ACGC offers up to six CEU opportunities per year.  For a schedule of these, contact Seanna Crosbie

Placement/Practicums for next generation therapists, etc.    

Each year, ACGC attracts practicum interns from a variety of different disciplines including social work, counseling, psychology, marriage and family therapy, as well as psychiatric nursing programs.  Diverse applicants who are interested in learning about evidence-based treatments are encouraged to apply.  In addition to these placements, ACGC hosts post-doctoral fellows. 

Trauma-Informed Trainings for Individuals and Organizations. 

ACGC offers interactive, engaging and educational 1.5 hour trauma trainings that are tailored to the needs of various audiences, including professionals and parents.  Trainings include information from the most current brain-based research on trauma and incorporate materials from Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and National Child Traumatic Stress Network.  

Training Topics Include: 

Trauma-Informed Care (direct care staff, teachers, supervisors, administrators) 

This training focuses on defining trauma as well as identifying symptoms in children and teens.  Research from the Adverse Childhood Experience Study is also explored.  Additionally, trauma and brain impact is discussed as part of this training.  Lastly, suggestions from the National Child Traumatic Stress Network are provided; these interventions can be used by direct care staff, or anyone working within an organization which has contact with clients. 

Creating Trauma-Informed Systems of Care within Organizations (leadership, board, administrators) 

This training focuses on creating trauma-informed organizational change.  Topics include ways to gain buy-in from providers and leadership, exploration of the six core values of trauma-informed care, and the development of an implementation plan.  Additionally, domain areas including evaluation, screening, support for staff, and policy are explored as well.

Trauma-Informed Care Consortium of Central Texas  

ACGC leads and convenes the Trauma-Informed Care Consortium of Central Texas (TICC) comprised of over 100 organizations.  This group convenes quarterly and offers presentations and trainings on topics including developing anti-racist practices in organizations as well as various evidence-based treatments for children and families.
